JOHN H. FOOTE…is a member of the International Association of Film Critics and the Internet Writers Association. In 1992 he co-created the television program Reel to Real, which he co-hosted and co-produced for seven years, leaving the program in 1999 to pursue print criticism. Always his first love.
He wrote for Hollywood North and their website, currently writes for Toronto Life and Fashion Magazine, the Metroland syndicate, and this website. In addition he guests on CBC Newsworld and Durham Today, both seen in Canada and via satellite in the United States. Through the course of his career he has seen literally tens of thousands of films and sees an average of three hundred and ten per year. 
He is Director of the prestigious Toronto Film School, Canada’s leading college in educating students in the arts and sciences of cinema, a position he has held since 2001, and has been involved in educating film students since 1995, teaching film history, genre study and acting. He has directed forty two plays over the course of his career, specializing in post-war American drama. 
He is currently under contract to Greenwood Publishers in the US to write biographies of Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg, after which he will write his study of the films of the eighties, exploring that decade’s greatest films that went unnoticed upon release. He has written an unpublished biography of Robert Duvall, that he hopes will be published within the next year.
John has been addicted to cinema since the seeing the Red Sea open at the age of eleven during a re-release of Cecil B. Demille’s The Ten Commandments (1956). His wife refers to film as “John’s heroin” while his children call him “the movie cricket”. He loves the work of Coppola and Scorsese, is partial to the films other seventies, and the great American westerns of John Ford. A champion of Canadian cinema, he lives in hope that one day Canadians will actually watch homegrown cinema. Through the course of his career he has interviewed such actors and directors as Tom Cruise, Spike Lee, Meryl Streep, Holly Hunter, Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, Peter Jackson, David Cronenberg, Francis Ford and Sofia Coppola, Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, Viggo Mortenson, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nicole Kidman, Julie Taymor, Martin Scorsese, John Boorman, George C. Scott, Nicolas Cage, Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman to name a few.
John is 48 years old and lives quietly in Seagrave, Ontario, Canada with his wife Sherri, married eighteen years and his daughters, Aurora, 15, and Ariana, 7.
